Quiet day
A quiet day is a day when a Genie did little, because there was little surplus, little demand, or both. The app shows it as a quiet day, with small figures, and nothing is owed.
IN SHORT
A quiet day is a day on which a Genie did little work or sold little of it, because the home had little solar surplus, because demand for computing was quiet, or both. The app shows a quiet day as a quiet day, with small figures for energy used, work performed, work sold, and money owed. It is an expected part of owning a Genie, not a fault.
A quiet day is a day on which a Genie performed little work or sold little of what it performed, because the home had little solar surplus, because demand for computing was quiet, or both. The app shows it as a quiet day.
Why it matters
Genie runs only on surplus and is paid only when its work sells. Both of those are outside anyone's control on a given day. Weather takes the surplus away; a slow stretch of demand takes the sale away. A product built on those rules will have quiet days, and the honest thing is to name them and show them rather than smooth them over.
Element 31 will never promise yields, returns, or passive income, and the quiet day is the concrete reason. Any figure for what a Genie earns would have to pretend the quiet days away. Instead, the measured results published before the first Genie ships will include the quiet homes and the quiet stretches, the low ones alongside the rest.
How it works here
On a quiet day caused by weather, Genie waits. It does not draw from the grid to keep working, and it has nothing stored, because it is not a battery. The app shows energy used as small, and work performed follows. On a quiet day caused by demand, the sun may be out and Genie may even run, but work sold is small and money owed follows work sold, not work performed. The app shows that too, in the same plain way.
A quiet day has no cost to the household. Nothing is drawn from the grid, nothing is charged, and nothing is lost but the work that did not happen. Turning Genie off produces the same result on purpose: nothing runs and nothing is earned, with no penalty.
Genie is in development. For the weather side, see What happens when the sun goes in. For the demand side, see Paid when the work sells.

Questions this raises
- Does Genie do anything on a quiet day caused by weather?
- It waits. It does not draw from the grid to keep working and has nothing stored, because it is not a battery. When surplus returns, it resumes.
- Can the sun be out and the day still be quiet?
- Yes. If demand for computing is quiet, Genie may run but little is sold, and money owed follows work sold rather than work performed. The app shows that plainly.
- Is a quiet day a sign something is wrong?
- No. It is an expected part of a product that runs on surplus and is paid only when work sells. Genie's health is reported separately, so an actual fault would show as a fault.
